Mistreated Dog Learns about Love

Charlie arrived at Baypath underweight and shaking with fear. He’d been bounced around and mistreated during his early years. A Baypath volunteer took him home to give him a quiet place to stay and some extra love and attention until he was adopted.

Because of his past treatment, Charlie understandably had anxiety about certain issues, such as food. Our staff behaviorist worked with Charlie’s foster mom, sharing ways to help him become more comfortable. Soon he became more relaxed, and was happy to run around the yard, play with toys, and get plenty of cuddles.

Having a foster home for Charlie also gave us the opportunity to learn a lot more about his personality and needs so we could find him the ideal home. He had luxating patellas, so he needed a home where he’d get regular exercise to protect his knees. In addition, we felt he would do best in a home with another dog and with people who were home a lot.

In a matter of weeks, we met Jim & Jan, an active retired couple who instantly fell in love with Charlie and adopted him. He’s now living the good life with his doting parents and fur-brother Cody!

Charlie’s foster mom said “I am immensely grateful to Baypath for giving a dog like Charlie a chance. It was amazing to see him turn from a scared dog to a happy, delightful little boy!”
