Baypath Receives Community Impact Grant from Eversource
We were so thrilled to recently have been both nominated for and the recipient of an Eversource Community Impact grant to further our mission of empowering young animal lovers to interact safely with cats and dogs.
This grant allows us to fortify our educational resources which are a critical part of our Baypath Educates Program. In particular, we were able to buy a large stock of the book Doggie Language: A Dog Lover’s Guide To Understanding Your Best Friend by Lili Chin. This small, but robust and brilliantly illustrated guide, empowers people of all ages on how to understand all the ways our dogs are communicating with us.
Having the resources to get out in the community and meet with so many animal lovers, but also equip them with the information to stay safe and make an impact on the animals in their life, is so rewarding for us. We are beyond grateful to Eversource and the Eversource Energy Foundation for this opportunity.
More on Baypath Educates
Baypath Humane Society is able to offer free educational programs on a range of animal care topics via the Baypath Educates Program. Our Community Liaison Michelle Kreell visits schools and community groups to talk to both children and adults about our shelter and a host of other topics relating to animals and animal welfare.
Michelle began volunteering at Baypath in 2013 and took on the role of Community Liaison in 2018. In this role, she develops fun student and scouting programs to foster empathy for animals and to teach students about humane animal care. She recently completed training in the nationally-recognized lesson plan American Humane Society’s KIDS Initiative (Kids Interacting Safely with Dogs) and is dedicated to teaching students across our community about safe animal handling.
In addition, Michelle Kreell is an extraordinary foster mom who champions our “underdogs”. Dogs with serious behavioral or medical issues can be tougher to find homes for, yet Michelle never lets that deter her. Over the years, she has fostered more than 50 animals — including some of our toughest to adopt dogs. From a bulldog with spina bifida to a terrier who was paralyzed by fear, Michelle brings hope to so many deserving animals.
