Baypath Educates at the Library
Our Community Liaison Michelle Kreell, her dog Laney, and fake fluffy Marley have been busy visiting local libraries to host story time. She was recently invited to participate in the summer reading programs at both Taft Public Library in Mendon and the Westborough Library.
They read some terrific books about animals needing homes and learn a little bit about what it means to rescue. Michelle also hands out a special coloring booklet on kids and dogs that they can read together. This activity both engages the kids, but also helps them learn how to safely interact with animals, including best ways to greet them. She then gets the kids involved in an exercise where they have the option to meet her stuffed dog Marley, real dog Laney or both after asking if the dog is friendly and if they can approach to say hi. The kids all seem to enjoy the interaction.
If you have a summer program interested in learning about animal welfare, please contact Michelle at [email protected]. She has programming geared toward small children, as well as older teens – from safe animal handling, to careers in animal welfare, to animal sheltering and more.
