How long have you been fostering?

Since November 2019

Was there something specific that made you want to foster?

Every dog I interact with provides me something new to learn about dogs and about myself. When I thought about fostering I realized it would be a great way to learn even more about dogs by helping them on their way to their forever homes. And what better way to do that, than to welcome them into my home – if only for a little while!

What impact has fostering had on your life?

Fostering has made such a difference to both me, and my canine family. My own two dogs have learned to welcome and look forward to the changing cast of canine companions. And they’re great teachers – helping the fosters “learn the ropes” of living in a home and feeling comfortable with people. Being a foster Mom has given me such an appreciation for the strength and resiliency of these dogs – and for the love and trust they’re able to give. Each foster has a special place in my heart – and there’s room in my heart for many more!

Do you have a funny or special story or a special foster to share?

Ralphie was a little black pup (seen in the photo on the left) I fostered and he fit in beautifully with my two large black dogs – what a trio! One morning as the three played outside, firetrucks rolled down a nearby street, sirens blaring. My dogs started to “sing” – howling loudly and happily along with the sirens. Ralphie on the other hand, was completely confused – running back and forth between the big kids until he finally stopped and tried a little, puppy howl. And there they stood – all three dogs howling until the firetrucks faded away into the distance. The video I took makes me laugh today. As I said, my dogs are great teachers!

Is there anything else you would like to add or include?

I feel fostering is a win-win-win for the dog, the foster, and the shelter. No one who fosters does it alone and the Baypath team has always been there for me. So I encourage anyone who may feel they have a heart to foster, not to second guess themselves. Just jump in and do it!
