As Dorothy famously proclaims in the cinematic classic ‘The Wizard of Oz,’ there’s no place like home. At Baypath, we work tirelessly to embody this familiar adage, consistently striving to provide the comfort and warmth of home to each animal – and person – we serve.

The cornerstone of our work is securing safe and loving forever homes for the dogs and cats in our care while supporting pet owners throughout the community. With the local need currently greater than ever, our dedicated team collaborates with countless regional partners to bring our mission to life.

According to Cat Programs Coordinator Katie Farrell, our relationships with resourceful animal welfare professionals, such as municipal animal control officers (ACOs), strengthen our lifesaving mission. She explains:

In July, Ashland ACO Dona Walsh facilitated a home-based rescue of two cats whose owner had sadly passed away. Dona was able to set humane traps and bring the nervous kitties to the shelter. Without this vital assistance, our team may have been unaware of the need for our services and unable to assist. The trust we share with ACOs such as Dona is incredibly meaningful to our work.

The power of local community collaboration is immense, its impact felt by humans and animals alike. Just ask Calcifer and Rhaenyra, the two kitties recently rescued by Dona. After only nine days at the shelter, this dashing duo was adopted by a fantastic family of their own!

Their newly minted fur mom, Isabella, shares that although her family came to the shelter seeking to adopt a single cat, they felt an immediate connection with both Calcifer and Rhaenyra. “They both definitely picked us to be their family,” she happily shares.

Since becoming accustomed to Isabella’s love-filled home, Calcifer and Rhaenyra eagerly show off their perfectly balanced personalities. Isabella remarks:

Both new additions are extremely affectionate, good-natured, playful and inquisitive. Though their demeanors are similar, they have distinctive endearing habits. Rhaenyra regularly asks for hugs – she tries to reach for our shoulders so we will pick her up and cuddle. Calcifer, on the other hand, is a paper bag aficionado. Once one hits the floor, he will run full speed into the bag and guard it like it’s his fort!

Because of you, the animals we serve are given the gift of experiencing home. Whether finding vulnerable cats
like Calcifer and Rhaenyra adoring adoptive abodes or joining forces with fellow rescue personnel to assist animal-loving community members in need, your caring support makes our work possible.

Your gift of $50, $100, $250 or $500 today ensures brighter tomorrows for the phenomenal dogs and cats whose paws cross our doors. On behalf of these deserving animals, please accept our extraordinary gratitude for your compassion, generosity and kindness.

Sincerely,

Elizabeth Jefferis
