Senior Chihuahua Newest Member of Woo Sox Nation
When 10-year-old Floridian chihuahua Maggie arrived at Baypath, our in-shelter team knew she would need a special home due to her age and various medical concerns. After being doted on by our staff and volunteers and ensuring her immediate medical needs were resolved, this sweet senior was ready to find her loving forever home.
Enter experienced Veterinary Technician Brittany – aka the ideal match for Maggie! This petite pup is now living her best life with Brittany, enjoying baseball games together at Polar Park! Brittany shares, “Maggie is the sweetest dog I’ve ever had. Even though she’s a senior, she is so full of life, always wagging her tail and happy to see me. She’s definitely a mama’s girl!”
Did you know that senior animals like Maggie typically spend more time in shelters than their younger counterparts? According to 24PetWatch and the ASPCA, there are numerous benefits of adopting senior dogs, including known temperament and personality, established grooming requirements, less frequent monitoring, a likely understanding of basic commands and the potential to already be house-trained.
Just take it from Brittany, who understands the unique joys of rescuing deserving seniors. “I know that when you adopt an older dog, you get fewer years with them than if you adopt a puppy. However, it is so rewarding to make senior pets so happy for their final years!”
Our dedicated team would love to help you adopt your new senior best friend today!
