Thank you for your interest!
We ask some in-depth questions to help people think more about what volunteering in a shelter looks like – especially from the dogs’ point of view. We have observed a significant shift in animal welfare in recent years and are dealing with a tougher population – dogs coming in with behavioral challenges and past traumas. We have had incredible success, helping these dogs through the difficult transition to a shelter and then into homes, but it requires a great deal of consideration to their safety and well-being – as well as that of the people who work with them.
While we do provide ongoing training, we are actively seeking volunteers with dog experience, especially with dogs with behavior challenges. And, at times, we do have to make the determination that our dog program may not be the right fit in the interest of safety for all.
Again, we thank you so much for your interest and passion for animals – and for considering this opportunity.
