Winter Pet Safety Tips

Our wonderful volunteer Jus put together a great list of top tips to keep your pets healthy and happy during the winter and holiday season. She includes helpful links to other great resources as well.

1. 1. Have a pet care provider for your holiday travel or in case you aren’t able to make it home due to the weather.

   2. Make sure to have extra pet supplies on hand in the event of a snowstorm and you’re unable to go out.

   3. Know your dogs limits based upon their breed, size and age.

   4. Use proper gear on your pup (i.e. booties, jacket, etc.) to avoid too much exposure to the winter elements.

   5. Clean up any antifreeze spills on your driveway or garage to avoid your pets consuming it and getting sick.

   6. Holiday plants can be dangerous and/or toxic to your pets.

   7. Be aware of your surroundings (i.e. depths of snow, ice, covered trees, etc.).
   8. Be mindful that the snow covers up normal scents, if a dog were to get lost, it would be hard to find his/her way back home so leashing up while outside is a good idea! Also make sure they have proper i.d./micro-chipped!
