Winter Pet Safety Tips
Winter Pet Safety Tips
Our wonderful volunteer Jus put together a great list of top tips to keep your pets healthy and happy during the winter and holiday season. She includes helpful links to other great resources as well.
-
- Have a pet care provider for your holiday travel or in case you aren’t able to make it home due to the weather.
- Make sure to have extra pet supplies on hand in the event of a snowstorm and you’re unable to go out.
- Know your dogs limits based upon their breed, size and age.
- Use proper gear on your pup (i.e. booties, jacket, etc.) to avoid too much exposure to the winter elements.
- Clean up any antifreeze spills on your driveway or garage to avoid your pets consuming it and getting sick.
- Holiday plants can be dangerous and/or toxic to your pets.
- Be aware of your surroundings (i.e. depths of snow, ice, covered trees, etc.).
- Be mindful that the snow covers up normal scents, if a dog were to get lost, it would be hard to find his/her way back home so leashing up while outside is a good idea! Also make sure they have proper i.d./micro-chipped!
