Foster Mom Justina’s Successes

We have close to 30 wonderful dog foster homes who make it possible for us to care for so many more dogs each year. One foster, Justina, takes on some of the dogs who struggle most in shelter. To date she has fostered close to a dozen dogs, including some with more considerable behavior challenges… and has helped them all transition successfully after allowing them to decompress and getting us so much critical data so that we could set them all up for success. Below are two of the dogs lucky enough to end up in her home.

Theo

Theo was an owner surrender, where despite all efforts from his owners, there were just too many moving parts at the home. A better environment was needed for him. Since he had already been living in a home, it was decided that he’d gain more from going straight to a foster, rather than the shelter. And that’s just what he needed. After a few days with the foster, it was clear what he needed to succeed. With much TLC and decompression, he was able to come out of his shell fully. And even picked up America’s favorite past time; Baseball, as his new favorite hobby. Not long after, he caught the attention from a nice family and has been thriving with them ever since.

You may remember we adopted Theo a year ago and he is very happy and well adjusted. He has become a great dog. So we did a DNA test and Theo is a third chihuahua!

Onyx

Onyx

Onyx was a stray living in Texas. Upon arrival at Baypath, it was apparent that he displayed some hip discomfort along with some behavioral issues, that very well went hand in hand. With this, it was decided that he’d benefit from being in a foster, to better suit his needs. When he arrived at the foster, it took a few days for him to settle in, and unwind. And it was there he was able to find himself; to gain confidence, to trust, to relax, to learn but most importantly, to accept love. He learned how to be the dog he was always meant to be. Including a court jester where one of his favorite funny antics was to throw himself to the ground, while making silly sounds, had he been ignored for even a few seconds…..Hollywood was missing an actor. It was because of this and his sweet demeanor, that he captured the hearts of a family. And to this day, he is thriving and living his “happy ever after.” with them.

Hello! Onyx is doing well! Thanks for checking in, we are having fun with him 🙂
-Onyx’s mom, Tori
