Planned Giving

Planned giving from your estate is a favored method of giving that enables you to achieve your financial goals and benefit Baypath Humane Society. Our Helen G. Miller Legacy Society includes our donors who have made a planned gift, and those anticipating making one. A planned gift is simple to make, yet easy to change should you ever need the assets during your lifetime.

Your careful planning as an animal lover today can result in a critical and meaningful impact for the future animals of Baypath Humane Society. Planned giving can also take the form of tax relief for your heirs, while preserving your philanthropic spirit. It provides financial stability for Baypath Humane Society and the thousands of animals we serve.

Each of these options may help you reduce your estate taxes. Furthermore, gifts made through beneficiary designations do not need to be made using a will, offer flexibility, and are easy to set up:

Please consult your financial planner or legal advisor for advice when considering estate options.

A vast range of planned giving options are available, offering opportunities to fit everyone’s circumstances. Your advanced planning allows you to choose the percentage, specific dollar amount and the assets involved.

We thank you for your continued support and appreciate your thoughtfulness as you consider planned giving options.

Making a planned gift to Baypath can be done using:

Life Insurance Policies

You can make Baypath your primary or contingent beneficiary

Fill out a change of beneficiary form from the plan administrator including the percentage you would like Baypath to receive, and return it to them. Let us know you have taken this action and we will include you in our planned giving donors, The Helen G. Miller Society.

IRA Charitable Rollovers

If you are 701/2 you may designate up to $100,000 to Baypath without having to pay income tax on the money being donated.

What makes this way of giving special is that you get to see your gift at work since it is used right away.

Contact your plan administrator for instructions on distribution, and remember to let us know and we will include you in our planned giving donors, The Helen G. Miller Society.

Retirement plans

As a nonprofit organization, we are tax-exempt and will receive the full amount of what you designate to us from your plan, without any tax ramifications.

Fill out a change of beneficiary form from the plan administrator including the percentage you would like Baypath to receive, and return it to them. Let us know you have taken this action and we will include you in our planned giving donors, The Helen G. Miller Society.

Charitable Gift Annuities

Creating a contract between a donor and Baypath, with the donor agreeing to make a gift and Baypath, in return, agree to pay the donor (and someone else, if the donor chooses) a fixed amount each year for the rest of their life.

You will qualify for a partial income tax charitable deduction, and a portion of your payments are tax-free throughout your life expectancy.

Charitable Remainder Trusts

A charitable remainder trust provides you or other named individuals income each year for life or a period not exceeding 20 years, from assets you give to the trust you create, after which the remaining assets in the trust would go to support Baypath.

Get advice from your financial advisor and/or legal advisor to set this up.

Bequests from Your Will

Including Baypath in your estate plans can easily be done and is a flexible plan since you can change your will should life circumstances change. Using clear language, designating a specific dollar amount, percentage, or the remainder of your estate is important, as well as using Baypath’s full legal name when completing these documents, and our EIN number:

Baypath Humane Society of Hopkinton, Inc

EIN # 04-2625753

Donor Advised Funds

Gifts though Donor Advised Funds can mitigate tax burdens, allowing you to instead designate your donor advised fund as the beneficiary of all or a portion of your retirement plan assets. Your fund receives the full amount of the gift and bypasses any federal taxes.

Sandra Powell, (Posthumous)

Sandra Powell was an accomplished professor and an avid dog lover. Her greatest love was spending time with her own dogs camping and hiking. Sandra also loved learning more about dogs in general, often attending seminars of her dear friend and renowned behaviorist Kelley Bollen, MS, CABC.

With her passing, her enduring wish via the Sandra Powell Charitable Trust was to help support shelters and rescues working to help dogs in need.

Sandra believed in strong animal welfare programs geared at assessing and addressing behavior needs, as well as engaging in thorough matchmaking discussions. It was her wish that trust proceeds to be used to bolster foster care and enrichment programs, as well as improve the physical housing conditions and overall quality of stay for dogs in shelters.

We are so grateful to be able to help more dogs in honor of Sandra.
