Baypath Humane Society of Hopkinton awarded $5,014 grant from the Banfield Foundation® for innovative In-house Diagnostic Kit Program.
New program will enable shelter staff, under the guidance of veterinary partners, to increase capacity to provide prompt emergency care.
Hopkinton, MA, October 5, 2022: Baypath Humane of Hopkinton (Baypath) is thrilled to announce our new partnership with the Banfield Foundation® and the receipt of grant support for our new medical program, the Baypath In-House Diagnostic Kit. Funds willprovide five critical pieces of medical equipment, that will allow our shelter staff to provide a better level of care in a more efficient anner. Like so many others, Baypath is experiencing delays in getting animals seen due to vet shortages. Our proposed in-house diagnostic kit will help to triage animals more quickly, increase service capacity, and save unnecessary, stressful and often expensive trips to the vet or vet hospital, while freeing our vet partners from simple diagnostic tests.
“I am so thankful to the Banfield Foundation for recognizing the importance of having
onsite tools that help our certified vet tech and veterinary interns to gather essential
preliminary data, proactively monitor animals, and work with our vet partners to ensure
successful outcomes for pets in our care,” said Baypath Executive Director, Liz Jefferis.
“This support will make all the difference in getting rescue animals the immediate help
they need.”
Veterinarian partners are in full support of the new initiative since it will allow them to be better informed ahead of their visits and plan accordingly. Baypath estimates that approximately 1,500 to 2,000 pets will benefit from the proposed diagnostic kit equipment in the next five years.
About Baypath Humane Society of Hopkinton, Inc.
Baypath Humane Society of Hopkinton (Baypath) is dedicated to providing shelter, care, humane treatment, and loving homes for stray or unwanted companion animals. Weserve our community by fostering relationships, promoting education, and making a positive impact on the pet overpopulation in our region. Baypath is a Massachusetts-based 501 C3 nonprofit animal shelter on the leading edge of the animal rescue field and a critical community resource. Like the animal shelter field in general, Baypath has evolved significantly since our founding in the 1970’s, when simply housing unwanted animals was the goal. Today, Baypath delivers evidence-based standards of care that address the physical, mental and behavioral needs of shelter animals, and their owners, ensuring to the greatest possible extent, successful forever matching and happy pets.
Working with other local shelters and animal control partners, Baypath takes on the tough cases. Often, 25% of the animals in our care are hard to place due to age, medical problems, behavior issues, or breed discrimination. Under the guidance of our Director of Behavior and Training, we rehabilitate and rehome many animals that others have rejected. Our cutting-edge education and science-based positive reinforcement training are key components of our approach at Baypath that help create and sustain lasting connections between pets and their people.
Baypath has garnered a reputation as a dynamic and innovative nonprofit in our community. Charity Navigator recently awarded Baypath a 100 out of 100, “Give With Confidence” rating from Charity Navigator, and a 100% Finance & Accountability rating, recognizing our continued commitment to financial stability, efficiency and sustainability. Guidestar, the world’s largest source of nonprofit information, also awarded Baypath the Platinum Seal of Transparency for 2022, a designation we have held since 2018, Guidestar’s highest level of recognition.
