Hopkinton, MA – Baypath Humane Society of Hopkinton, Inc., launched “Building Baypath’s Future,” the largest fundraising campaign in the Massachusetts shelter’s nearly 50-year history, to construct a modern facility that will address the increased need for rehoming, adoption, care, and animal welfare education services in the area. The campaign has already raised $4 million toward a $6.5 million goal.

Now entering its public phase, the campaign positions Baypath to continue its leadership role in the community, which includes taking in and caring for more than 1,000 dogs and cats annually, supporting law enforcement and animal control officers in neighboring towns and cities, and providing educational programs to children and seniors.

“In recent years, the demand for Baypath’s services has seen a substantial increase. However, our cramped shelter limits our ability to operate at the highest levels. A new, modern facility will not only help us meet the current need but expand our services to our community,” says Elizabeth Jefferis, Executive Director of Baypath Humane Society.

The new shelter will:

  • Ensure the highest standard of animal care, including the recently published shelter requirements for animal housing
  • Expand health and wellness services with dedicated medical space
  • Optimize training, education, and community outreach with dedicated space for animal behavioral training and seminars in animal welfare
  • And more…

“Baypath is well-respected for its commitment to addressing the unique needs of dogs and cats in the shelter’s care through customized evaluations, behavioral training, medical care, and one-on-one enrichment. The new building will provide the space to continue our important work in each of these areas, changing the trajectory of animals in crisis,” says Courtney McFarland, President of Baypath Humane Society.

The building will sit on five acres of land leased to the organization by the town of Hopkinton for 50 years. “We’re creating a facility that will not only be a great home for the cats and dogs while they are at the shelter, but a space for the community at large to learn about topics in animal welfare,” says Jon Proffitt, a senior executive in workplace planning, who is volunteering and guiding the efforts of Baypath’s Building Committee.

“This campaign is a once-in-a-generation opportunity and we need the community’s support to make it a reality,” Jefferis says.
