Baypath Reaches $5 Million Milestone as New Shelter Plans Takes Shape on 5-Acre Property
Hopkinton, MA – March 2025– Baypath Humane Society of Hopkinton, Inc. has reached a major milestone in its Building Baypath’s Future campaign, surpassing $5 million in fundraising toward its $6.5 million goal. The new facility will be built on a five-acre parcel through a 50-year lease with the town. With plans to begin construction later this year, the organization is entering the exciting groundbreaking phase, bringing its vision of a modern animal adoption, care, and education center closer to reality.
Adding to this momentum, the Town of Hopkinton Zoning Board of Appeals, in a unanimous vote, granted Baypath a special permit to officially designate the 66 Fruit Street location for use as an animal shelter. With this approval secured, Baypath is preparing to break ground by late summer, with construction expected to take 12 months to complete.
“This vision for a new shelter is becoming a reality, and that is thanks to the generosity of our supporters,” says Elizabeth Jefferis, Executive Director of Baypath Humane Society. “We’ve made incredible progress, but we’re not done yet. Every dollar raised helps us to create a modern safe haven where
animals will receive the care, compassion, and second chances they deserve.”
The new shelter will be a critical resource for this region of Massachusetts, ensuring that animals in crisis get the support they need. For nearly 50 years, Baypath has been a vital community partner, caring for over 1,000 dogs and cats annually and providing essential services such as foster programs, behavioral training, community education, and pet supplies for the food pantry.
The new facility will include:
- Enhanced housing to meet modern animal welfare standards
- A dedicated health & wellness suite to improve medical care on-site
- Education and training areas to support adopters, volunteers, and the community
- Welcoming spaces for adoption counseling and rehoming support
“This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity,” says Courtney McFarland, President of Baypath’s Board of Directors. “The wheels are in motion, and we are moving forward, but we need our community to rally with us.”
