A Mother’s Day Story: Six New Beginnings

Mother’s Day is a time to recognize the love, strength, and instinct that define caregiving—whether it comes from a mom, a guardian, a mentor, or even a devoted animal with a fierce heart.

Before she was Livie, she was Sloane—a gentle soul living in a loud, overcrowded home with many animals and very little space. At just two years old and already pregnant, she had never known calm or consistency. The environment was far from ideal, but it was all she knew: constant movement, other cats, and very little peace.

When she was surrendered to Baypath, she went straight into foster care with Jen Finn, a dedicated Baypath cat foster. And with that, her new life began. Jen gave her a new name: Livie, short for Olivia Rodrigo. It fit. Livie had a big heart, a little flair for drama, and more love to give than she knew what to do with.

The quiet of Jen’s home was unfamiliar. Livie had never known stillness. She’d sit by the door, calling out to Merida—one of several cats Jen had adopted from the same litter she once fostered with their mother. Jen had kept Merida and a few of her siblings, making them a permanent part of the family. Seeing Livie’s need for connection, Jen let her explore the upstairs hallway, helping her feel safe and less alone.

Over the next five weeks, Livie began to settle in and prepare for the arrival of her kittens. She learned the sound of Jen’s voice, the rhythm of the house, and where the sun landed on the rug in the afternoon. Then, her kittens were born.

From the moment they arrived, Livie was fiercely maternal. She curled protectively around her newborns, barely letting Jen near. Jen gave her space—but sensed something more. Livie hovered with an intensity that seemed rooted in more than instinct.

Then one day, Jen discovered why.

One of the kittens hadn’t made it. Livie, following her instincts, had gently tucked him beneath the bedding. She had been grieving in silence. Once Jen found the tiny kitten, it was as if Livie could finally let go of her secret—and no longer carry the loss alone. Something in her shifted. She leaned into Jen’s hand, purred, and let herself be comforted. From that moment on, she began to receive love just as fully as she gave it.

Fittingly, her six surviving kittens were all named after pop stars—Harry Styles, Pit Bull, Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Zac Efron, and Meghan Trainor. Under Livie’s watchful eye (and Jen’s care), they grew into plump, fearless little explorers, filling the house with tiny paw steps, playful chaos, and nonstop curiosity.

Like any tired mom of toddlers, Livie eventually carved out time for herself again—sunny windowsills, quiet corners—knowing her babies were strong enough to take on the world.

With Jen’s help, Livie raised six healthy, happy kittens. And thanks to her strength—and the love surrounding her—every one of them found a forever home.

A Mother’s Legacy: Livie’s Kittens in Loving Homes

Snow (formerly Sloane/Livie)

“She is perfect—a little fluff ball who loves her toys and treats. She is such a joy to have. She even plays fetch—bringing her favorite toy back over and over for more throws.”

Snow settled beautifully into her forever home, quickly becoming a bright spot in the family’s daily life. Her playful nature and impressive fetching skills amaze her family. She’s also forming a sweet routine with the resident cat—every morning, the two seek each other out, which her adopter describes as “the cutest thing ever.” With her affectionate spirit and joyful presence, Snow has fit in like she was always meant to be there.

Watch Snow in action as she shows off her fetching skills in the video below.:

Nedward (formerly Harry Styles)

“Seeing Nedward settle in so quickly—and watching him become best buddies with our cat, Norman—makes us happier than a monkey at a banana factory.”

Formerly known as Harry Styles, this playful kitten now answers to Ned—or more formally, Nedward. His new name was inspired by a moment at Baypath, where his behavior with the other cats reminded his adopters of a scene from The Simpsons featuring a young, rambunctious Ned Flanders.

Nedward settled in instantly, winning over his new family and their resident cat, Norman—a big, gentle black Maine Coon—with his affectionate and fearless nature. From couch cuddles to tag-team zoomies with Norman, he fills every day with laughter. His adopters say he’s everything they hoped for—and clearly, a perfect match.

Pippy and Hallie (formerly Pit Bull and Taylor Swift)

“Pippy is our little hunter—he carries his toy mouse all over the house!”
“Hallie is our mischief maker—if you leave the bathroom door open, you might need more toilet paper.”

Pippy and Hallie were adopted together and quickly became beloved by everyone, especially the kids.

Pippy, a long-haired, fluffy white-and-grey boy, has fully embraced his playful, adventurous spirit. Whether he’s showing off his latest “catch” or chasing after toys, he brings lively energy to every room.

Hallie, a sleek black beauty, keeps the family laughing with her mischievous antics. She loves to play fetch with pipe cleaners and always finds new ways to cause adorable chaos—especially if a bathroom door is left open!

Together, Pippy and Hallie fill their home with love, play, and endless affection.

Ed (formerly Ed Sheeran)

“Ed is the friendliest cat we own—he talks, purrs, and greets every visitor like an old friend.”

Ed never had to leave the family he already loved—because his foster mom, Jen, officially adopted him. He joined a crew of other kittens Jen had kept from a previous foster litter, instantly becoming part of the gang.

Early on, Ed faced a small but important medical challenge: a dermoid cyst, a harmless patch of hair and skin tissue growing on his eyelid. Thanks to Jen’s persistence, he was treated at Tufts Veterinary Hospital, where the cyst was safely removed before it could cause any issues.

Through it all, Ed stayed true to his sweet, chirpy self. Jen affectionately calls him her “snuggle muffin”—he’s always eager for cuddles and never shy about chatting with everyone he meets. His big foster brothers adore him, and Jen says the house simply wouldn’t feel the same without him.

Ozzie (formerly Zac Efron)

“Ozzie is doing amazing! He’s such a love and we’re so grateful to Baypath for adding him to our family.”

Ozzie settled in beautifully. He made himself comfortable almost immediately, greeting everyone with his affectionate, playful spirit. He’s already bonding with one of the family’s other cats—Winter (formerly Zebra), another Baypath alum—and as you can see below, the two are often found sharing the cat condo, a perfect pair of snuggle buddies bringing warmth and joy into every room.

Luna (formerly Meghan Trainor)

“She purrs all the time and is super playful and snuggly. She is an absolute joy.”

Luna quickly made herself at home in her forever family. True to her kitten roots, she purrs constantly—whether she’s playing, snuggling, or simply soaking up attention. This beautiful girl has long, silky black fur that shines in the sunlight.

She’s now part of a lively household that includes a canine sibling and a fellow Baypath alum, Killian—a striking white cat with distinctive black markings—who was adopted in 2018. From her booming kitten purrs to her loving cuddles today, Luna has truly become the heart of her new family.
