The Society is managed by an elected Board of Directors
. Board meetings are held the second Tuesday of every month.
Susan Rossnick, President
Back in 2011, as a longtime resident of Hopkinton, Susan was looking for a local organization to join, become involved with and contribute to. She wanted to give back to community - bringing together her 30+ years of corporate experience and her passion for animals. Susan started as a volunteer at Baypath – walking dogs on Sunday mornings. Like many of the Board members, she looked for ways “do even more” and joined the Baypath Board in 2011. She became President of the Board in 2013.
Susan has a professional background in engineering, marketing, and general management and leads a global engineering group for a Massachusetts-based software company. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Master’s degree in Computer Science from Rutgers University.
Susan has one cat named Waffles. Waffles is a domestic long hair cat found on the streets of Lynn in 2007. She has a ton of personality - particularly when greeting visitors at the front door. Nothing makes Waffles happier than hearing Susan pick up her favorite laser light and preparing for the chase. Susan is honored to serve on the Baypath board, and leverage her corporate experience in support of the shelter.
Sarah Baroud, LICSW, Vice President
Sarah is a Social Worker for the Town of Westwood Youth & Family Service Department. Sarah is a graduate of Merrimack College, where she received a Bachelor of Arts, and Simmons College, where she earned a MSW. Sarah has been on the Board of Directors since August 2013. Sarah is an active member on the Board's Outreach Committee and 5K Planning Committee. Sarah enjoys time with family, friends, and especially being with her rescue dog, Noelle.
Debbie Koopman, Treasurer
Debbie joined the Board of Directors in 2011. Before that, she was an active volunteer walking and caring for dogs at the shelter. Debbie is on the planning committee for the Fore Paws Golf Tournament, as well as the Board’s Donor Development Committee.
Debbie and her husband have a beautiful Shepherd mix, Gracie, who was adopted from Baypath. They have also been very proud foster parents of two dogs.
Debbie attended St. Louis University where she obtained her Masters in Business Administration. She worked in public and private accounting for fifteen years before returning to school for her Masters in Nursing. She currently works as a nurse practitioner.
Kristin Sahagian, Esq., Secretary
Kristin joined the Board of Directors in June 2014, shortly after adopting a miniature pinscher from Baypath. Kristin helps organize the Baypath Paws and Claws 5K, and is on the Board's Website and Events Oversight Committees. Kristin recently assisted with the successful redesign and launch of Baypath's new website.
Kristin attended Bates College, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and Political Science, with a specialization in Legal Studies. Kristin received her Juris Doctor from Syracuse University, where she studied finance and banking law.
Kristin is a member of both the New Hampshire and the Massachusetts bars, and is admitted to practice law in New Hampshire, Massachusetts and the United States District Court for the District of New Hampshire. Currently, Kristin is an Assistant District Attorney at the Worcester County District Attorney's Office.
Kristin Fitzpatrick, PHR / SHRM-CP
Kristin is our most recent member of the board, joining in February 2016. Kristin’s love of cats and animals in general sparked her interest in Baypath and the opportunity to be a member of a team dedicated to improving the lives of animals. Kristin serves as the HR Specialist on the Board and is a member of the Finance & HR Committee.
Kristin has a professional background in management and human resources. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Bryant University and a Master’s degree in Human Resources from Framingham State University.
Kristin and her husband David live in Wrentham and have two sweet and spoiled Ragdolls, Sidlee and Bentlee, who rule the house.
Alissa’s passion for dogs & cats lead her to volunteer at Baypath as a dog walker in November 2015. Having her own dogs and cat didn’t stop Alissa from also adopting a bonded pair of dogs and fostering a dog in need from Baypath. Wanting to make an even bigger impact, Alissa joined the Board of Directors in June 2016 to provide support and bring experience to Donor Development. Her academic background includes attending Boston Latin School, a BA from Holy Cross and an MS from Boston College. Professionally, Alissa has worked in Enterprise Sales for over 15yrs. She resides in Hopkinton with her husband, Mark, and her two children, Morgan & Dylan, where they enjoy waterfront living on Lake Maspenock.
Sandra recently joined the Board of Directors in January 2015. She has been involved with Baypath as a volunteer since 2010, and helps with adoptions, tech support, and social media campaigns. Sandra is a multi-time adopter (including her dogs, Lily and Nellie and cats, Fenway and Kai) and multi-time foster parent. Sandra's passion for Baypath is such that she runs the Boston Marathon annually for the shelter, raising more than $20,000 throughout the last few years.
Professionally, Sandra is a journalist covering technology, healthcare, business and lifestyle. She is a contributing writer to Computerworld as well as other large-scale publications.
Erin joined the Board of Directors in January 2015. Erin is currently the Manager of Resource Development for the Boys & Girls Clubs of MetroWest. Erin is a graduate of Northeastern University, where she majored in Communication Studies and Journalism. She currently lives in Upton with her two cats, Will and Grace.
Amy has been on the Board of Directors since 2014. Amy joined the Board to help the shelter raise funds and secure a permanent home. Amy is a home maker with a Bachelor of Arts in History from Framingham State University. Amy has two dogs and two cats who have her trained quite well.
Amy is heavily involved in events and fundraising on the Board. She organizes the annual Fur Ball and Fore Paws Golf Tournament. Amy is also on the Event Oversight Committee.
Heather Holt, CPA
Heather joined the Board of Directors in August 2016, shortly after adopting a kitten from Baypath. Heather attended Bryant University where she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Masters in Professional Accountancy. She is a licensed CPA in Massachusetts that started her career as an auditor at a Big Four accounting firm in Boston and now works as an Assistant Controller for a public REIT.
Currently, Heather and her husband live in Franklin with their three fur babies Boone, Ava and Dany.
Elizabeth Jefferis, Executive Director
Liz first got involved with Baypath in 2010 as a volunteer and foster parent. Later, Liz joined the staff and eventually became the Executive Director of the shelter. Liz attended Smith College, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, but left the finance industry to pursue her lifelong passion of helping animals. Liz is the proud parent of four dogs, two cats and an African grey parrot.
Amy Karls, DVM
Amy recently joined the Board of Directors in January 2016, about a year after Baypath helped place an FIV+ senior cat that she fostered. A veterinarian for over 15 years, she was looking for a way to become more engaged in shelter medicine through involvement with a well established companion animal shelter in central MA.
Amy is a graduate of Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine. She is currently employed as a professional consulting veterinarian for Hill’s Pet Nutrition, and is a member of the American Association of Feline Practitioners, the American Animal Hospital Association, the Association of Shelter Veterinarians, and the Humane Society Veterinary Medical Association. She has been a volunteer surgeon for the past eight years with the community cat/feral cat clinics hosted by Tufts and MRFRS, and has been a foster mom to a number of rescue cats with challenging medical issues. Amy is also a member of our Outreach Committee and enjoys educating pet owners on ways to keep their furry family members healthy, happy, and fit.
In August 2015, Amy began work on her Master of Science degree in Shelter Medicine through the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine. She plans to complete this degree in 2018.
Cheering her along through all this are her husband Michael and her four cats Isis, Calaf, Maya, and Cider. Although her life always seems to involve cats in one way or another, she also enjoys going to concerts, reading (especially science fiction and fantasy), hiking, and visiting her friends and family in CT.
Kelly Lockwood Primus
Kelly joined the Board of Directors in April 2016. Passionate about animal welfare, Kelly has adopted many dogs and cats over her lifetime, and has been a supporter of Baypath and other animal welfare societies. Currently, she and her husband have two cats they rescued while living in Texas.
With over 25 years of experience in creative marketing, communications, business and brand development, Kelly will put her skills to use with the donor development and event committees.
Kelly is the SVP, Strategic Client Solutions for Leading Women, a management consulting company focused on closing the leadership gender gap for Fortune 500 companies. Kelly and her husband, former NBA player Stuart Primus, live in Holliston.
Patty joined the Board of Directors in 2015 following her passion for animal welfare her desire to give back in her community. Patty has a professional background in Accounting and Finance and served as Treasurer on several not for profit organizations. She is a member of the Board’s Finance Committee.
Patty attended Bentley University where she received a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and furthered her studies at Babson College where she obtained a Master’s degree in Business Administration. She is a licensed CPA in Massachusetts.
Patty enjoys spending time with her cat Otie, a 12 year old orange tiger cat that she has had since he was a kitten.
Aimee joined the Board of Directors in December 2014. Aimee first got involved with Baypath when she ran the Paws and Claws 5k. There, she connected with other Board members and realized that she could assist with public outreach and donor relations.
Aimee's professional background includes roles in client service at an investment consulting firm serving non-profit organizations. More recently, Aimee earned her real estate license and is part of the writing staff for the Hopkinton Independent. Aimee attended the University of Vermont were she received a Bachelor of Sciences in Animal Sciences. Aimee and her husband are the proud parents of a chocolate lab, Martha, who is best described as a "cannon ball on legs." Her family enjoys hiking and long games of fetch with Martha's favorite tennis ball.
About the Board
The Board of Directors is a 16-person volunteer organization chartered with advancing the mission of Baypath. The Board is responsible for budget planning, financial management and capital goals (including new equipment, building improvements).
Each board member is also deeply involved in fundraising as only a portion of the monies needed to run the shelter is covered by adoption fees. As a team, the Board provides professional expertise, community perspective, time and organizational credibility to the administration and management of affairs at the shelter.Board members are also seated to various specialized committees, which focus on a specific area or initiative, such as grant writing, marketing and community outreach.
